Shoot Nations

What upsets you?
What can you do about it?
Who listens to you?

These were the three photographic briefs that young people worldwide were invited to photograph or draw for the Shoot Nations competition.

This Key Stage 4 Media Studies scheme of work looks at photographs as a source, and the power of photography as a means of communication.

It is said that a photograph can tell a thousand words - these lessons look at what makes a powerful photo, and how certain photos have changed the world.

Students are asked to analyse photos and build a local campaign from a photo they have taken. After developing the campaign students present their ideas to the rest of the class and a vote is taken on which campaigns to back.

The last lesson of the series uses a ‘blind comparison’ exercise to develop descriptive interpretation of photographs.

The scheme of work is mapped to the AQA 2007 GCSE syllabus for Media Studies and has all worksheets and resources included.
