The lesson is designed to show students how war affects girls in different ways from boys, and specifically to examine the role of education (or lack thereof) in girls' lives.
Students will be able to see the similarities between themselves and their peers in war-torn countries, including the things that they need in order to grow up well. They will also understand why these things are hard to get in a conflict situation, and most importantly, why girls often lack access to education.
This curriculum is tailored to a critical piece of the 'Because I am a Girl' campaign, pushing the UK government to act on behalf of girls in conflict affected countries, and to commit money to girls education.
At the end of this lesson, students will take part in a campaigning action, sending a postcard to Gordon Brown, with a clear understanding of why this is an important issue, and how they can make a difference to someone's life in another country.
