Global WarningStarting Autumn 2009 Plan UK rolls out an exciting new climate change project. In partnership with UK Youth Parliament, Plan UK will support 4 young journalists from the UK and Indonesia to attend the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December. Shoot Nations 2009Plan Make the Link, Be the ChangeFollowing on from the successful Make the Link, Break the Chains anti-slavery project, last year Plan launched a global project on Climate Change in conjunction with National Museums Liverpool. Make the Link, Be the Change involved children from UK, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Kenya, Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Brazil and Haiti. Footprint FriendsPlan-ed is delighted to announce a partnership with Footprint Friends, the leading environmental social networking site for 11-18 year olds. Footprint friends will be working with Plan on the Make the Link, Be the Change project and are also a partner with Children in a Changing Climate. Youth ParticipationYoung people have been representing Plan in Indonesia, Poland and France to campaign for action to be taken on climate change. Camden students fundraise to help cyclone victimsSeven Year 9 students from Haverstock School in the London Borough of Camden, along with two teachers, formed 'Project Burma' to raise awareness and much needed funds for the disaster. Plan-ed teamed up with Shoot Experience in 2007 to run a global photography competition based on the notion of governance and what it means to young people around the world. The project received over 1500 entries from 85 countries and was presented to the UN on International Youth day. An exhibition and workshop tour visited four continents and was viewed by over 4500 visitors. Anti-slavery projectThis interactive project linked students in Liverpool, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Brazil and Haiti to talk about the legacy of slavery, 200 years after it was abolished in the British Empire. School Linking Service LaunchedLink your school with one from Malawi, Kenya or Sierra Leone. Share your learning through letters, emails and web correspondence from Africa. Vote for childrenThe Vote For Me campaign, a joint project by Plan and other members of the Alliance For Childhood in Colombia. Alliance members met groups of teenagers to find out what they found important. Youth advisors quizMembers of Plan UK's Youth Advisory Panel recently met with DfID (Department for International Development) Minister Gareth Thomas to discuss the challenges faced by some of the world's poorest children affected by HIV and AIDS. Blog your views on child traffickingAs part of the celebrations for the Day of the African Child on June 16th, Plan has created a blog where young people from Africa and across the world can share their ideas about how to combat the problem of child trafficking.
