Youth Participation is really important to Plan UK as our approach to development revolves around 'child-centeredness'. This means that rather than seeing children as something that development happens to, we see children as active participants and stakeholders in the process. All the issues that Plan campaigns about have children in mind, and we try to reflect their views by consulting young people as often as possible about the work we do. In Plan UK, youth participation takes several forms. The most direct form is the Children's Advisory Panel (CAP). This is a group of young people who regularly meet to discuss the development issues that they care about, and how the work of Plan is addressing their concerns. They also give direction to campaigns and ensure that children¿s views are taken into account. Young people can also get involved by development education projects such as Shoot Nations (young people communicating via photography), Make the Link, be the Change (climate change education project) or School Linking (UK schools linking with African counterparts). The Plan-ed resource centre also offers a research and information tool for young people who want to learn more about the developing world and global development issues.
