| Below are some examples of what young people from around the world are campaigning about |
Children have Something to SayYoung people from India made 36 short films about issues that are important to them. Plan provided the equipment and the young people did everything else, including writing, directing, filming and reporting. The resulting videos have been shown around the world and have had a fantastic impact. Why not get hold of a video camera and make your own film? You could show it in a school assembly or send a copy to your MP. Tobacco-Free KidsStudents in Massachusetts, USA have gone all out to get people to sit up and take notice of the dangers involved in smoking. They took to the streets with a number of bold campaign activities that included making street presentations, calling their MPs in support of anti-tobacco legislation and drawing the chalk outlines of 28 bodies on the pavement to represent the 28 tobacco related deaths each day in Massachusetts. Their message is to be confident and not be afraid to pester the people in charge. Letter writingChildren from a primary school in Andover, Hampshire were so shocked when they learnt that some children in Africa could not go to school and instead were forced to work for a living, they decided to write to their MP. Sir George Young MP was very impressed by the children's letters and agreed to visit their school and hear their concerns. During his visit he was treated to a drama presentation on some of the issues facing young people in Africa. Sir George gave the children advice about how to take their campaign further. Why not write to your MP? You never know what could come of it. |
