What has the CAP been up to?
The emphasis so far has been on building CAP members' capacity as youth advocates - young people who stick up for others! They have been gaining lots of skills and building up their confidence.
Recent activities include:
UN international Youth Day 2007 Elly and Katie went to the U.N on international youth Day 2007 to present the 48 winning photos from the Shoot Nations project and to tell the highest form of government how important Youth Voice is in decision making.
Global Children's Advisory board conference (GCAB) Plan CAP hosted representatives of Plan's Children's Advisory Boards from Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and USA in March 2008. Young people came together to discuss what work they do and how they do it. It was also a chance to see how the work we do contributes to rest of the work of Plan and to learn new skills such as campaigning. Please follow the links to see the visual minutes of the meeting
Day 2
Day 3
Workshops and Assemblies The CAP have been talking to their friends, families and community members about our work, leading workshops with other youth groups about climate change, Shoot Nations and giving assemblies in their schools about the Girls Campaign. They have also managed to get hundreds of their friends to sign postcards to Gordon Brown calling on him to ensure that girls and conflict zones are able to go to school.
Girls Report Launch Leon attended the launch of the 2008 Girls Report where he grilled MP Shahid Malik about what young people can do for International Development and ensure that young people everywhere get a fair and equal chance for an education and a good life.
EU Development Days Durgha and Sarah attended the EU Development Days in Strasbourg and took part in a Youth Forum to discuss the issues young people face around the globe and how they want to work in partnership with local governments to make change. They were also journalists for the event, interviewing people such as Morgan Tsvangirai - Zimbabwe Prime Minister-designate, Wangari Maathai - the 2004 Nobel peace prize winner, Michael Foster UK MP and many more, about their opinions of youth participation in governance.
