In 2007, young reporters were invited to show off their writing talent and win the trip of a lifetime to Africa to produce a story on a Plan project tackling child labour.

We had an overwhelming response to our Young Reporters Competition, with over a hundred budding writers showing off their skills.

The entries were judged by a celebrity panel at National Museums Liverpool and journalists at the Guardian and Sky, who picked the winners.

Che Ramsden, winner of the competition, visited Senegal in June to view current Plan child labour project and also to visit historical slave sites. Whilst there Che stopped in at Mariama Ba school to find out how they were getting on with the Make the Link, Break the Chain project.

The runner-up in the competition, Rebecca Hare, received two tickets to watch Liverpool play Arsenal. Liverpool played a key part in the transatlantic slave trade, funding many of the ships and transporting manufactured goods to west Africa to exchange for slaves.
