Make the link, break the chain

Welcome to the Anti-Slavery project, 'Make the Link, Break the Chain'. The project material shown on this site was created by pupils from schools in the UK and Senegal in 2007 through online collaboration using Gemin-i.

2007 marks the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in the UK. Using this online community and the 9-lesson programme, pupils looked at the experiences of countries along the Triangular Route. They explored how slavery has shaped Brazil, England, Haiti, Senegal and Sierra Leone, and how this shared history affects our lives today.

In partnership with Plan UK, the National Museums Liverpool and cultural charity Aduna, the schools involved examined three core questions:
What is slavery?
What does it mean to be free?
How do we safeguard liberty?
